Lower Mississippi Valley Geospatial Information Conference
Memphis, TN - Lower Mississippi Valley Geospatial Information Conference: June 17 and 18, 2008. The U.S. Geological Survey, the Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture, and Duck?s Unlimited announce the Lower Mississippi Valley Geospatial
Information Conference to be held on June 17 and 18, 2008 at the Ducks Unlimited Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee.
It has been 11 years since the last LMV Geospatial conference and 6 years since the last LMVJV Geomatics Network meeting. During that time the numerous federal and state agencies, NGO?s, academic institutions, and other entities have continued to develop geospatial data and information to meet changing requirements and needs.
We believe that the context and focus of the conference should be:
- Discovery of information
- Producers of data
- Identification of data and information gaps
This will be a working conference. We will have presentations, but we will also have some working/break-out sessions to solicit ideas from the participants about cooperation, data integration, data availability, and data gaps.
This is a Call for Presentations for the Conference. We would like presentations that will contribute to a resurvey of the LMV geospatial community about activities and answer such questions as:
- What are internal agency needs
- How are the internal agency needs being met
- Are the needs similar across the LMV
- How consistent are data content, formats, systems and platforms being used among producers and users
- Harvesting and providing access to existing geospatial resources from Federal, state, and local agencies
- What are the areas of coverage and how up-to-date is the inventory of data among the partners?
- What framework datasets exist, currency, scales, formats?
- What is currently being developed from the federal, state, academic, and
private sides? - What special projects are being developed?
- What Science Needs are being answered with the geospatial data resources in the LMV?
- LMV geospatial data roles
- Distributed geodatabases, NBII nodes, gateways, metadata catalogues - how can the agencies provide better or more coordinated access to
geospatial data.
Please send presentation title, a short abstract, author(s) and
affiliations to larry_handley@usgs.gov in a Word .doc format by May 15,
2008.
The organizing team of Larry Handley of USGS, Chris Cretini of USGS, Bill Uihlein of the LMVJV, and Dawn Browne of Duck?s Unlimited believe that this will be a tremendously valuable meeting for all geospatial activities
within the LMV, and will be a great opportunity for us to get together again after 11 years.
