A giant squid was captured that measured out at around 24 feet long.  Unfortunately the squid died, but will be given to scientist for further research.

Working with volunteers to restore New Orleans’ City Park has become an ongoing labor of
love for two LSU AgCenter employees. On December 8-9, LSU AgCenter hurricane recovery coordinator Mark
Schexnayder and Amanda Hardesty, the recovery volunteer coordinator with the LSU AgCenter and Louisiana
Sea Grant program, worked with nearly 500 volunteers to restore plant material that will improve water
quality in the lakes at City Park.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to remind shrimpers that the
final application deadline for new federal shrimp moratorium permits is Oct. 26, 2007. However, federal
regulations require these new permits be onboard vessels fishing for Gulf of Mexico shrimp in federal
waters beginning on March 26, 2007.
